Jean Houston

Jean Houston, PhD

Dr. Jean Houston is a scholar and researcher in human capacities and for the past 40 years has co-directed, with her late husband Dr. Robert Masters, the Foundation for Mind Research, first in New York City, and more recently in Ashland, Oregon. Their work has focused on the understanding of latent human abilities. She is the founder of a program of cross-cultural mythic and spiritual studies—dedicated to empowering change agents and people around the world by teaching history, philosophy, the new physics, psychology, anthropology, myth, and the many dimensions of our human potential. She is also the founder of training programs in social artistry which enables leaders to extend their own development so as to more adequately deal with the social challenges of today’s world.

Her specialty is in the development and application of multiple methods of increasing physical and mental skills, learning and creativity. She has presented the results of her work and studies in some 26 books, as well as in person through speeches and conferences at educational institutions and business organizations in over 100 countries. She is often invited to work personally with leaders of such groups, as well as heads of governmental and non-governmental agencies, to assist them in rethinking their goals and agendas.

Presently, as a Senior Consultant to the United Nations in Human Development she and her team have been training leaders in many developing countries in developing their own human capacities in the light of social change. Dr. Houston’s ability to inspire and invigorate people enables her to convey her vision of the finest possible achievement of individual potential and share the excitement of that possibility with her audiences and students all over the world.

Additionally, she and her associates have created the International Institute for Social Artistry which is implementing training programs in social artistry in many countries but also have created a Masters program in Leadership and Social Artistry. A new eponymous foundation has recently been formed with the directive to train thousands of trainers in the methods of social artistry who, in turn, will train millions of people the world over.
